Epiphone MB-100 Banjo
The MB-100 open back 5-string banjo is the perfect traveling banjo and an ideal first instrument for players interested in bluegrass and stringband music. Open back banjos are appreciated for being lightweight (easy on the shoulder!) and for their unique, mellow tone. Epiphone’s founder Epi Stathopoulo’s first patent was for a banjo and Epiphone has always been at the forefront of banjo design, setting trends, and leading the industry in making affordable quality instruments.
Banjos sometimes come with resonators – the resonator literally resonates the sound and makes it louder, often increasing the higher frequencies. The idea behind it was to be heard in a band setting when in the days before amplification.
This banjo doesn’t come with a resonator – hence it’s called an open back banjo. The sound is quieter and more mellow. Better to some people’s ears. It’s more ideal for practicing without disturbing your neighbours or making you feel self-conscious when you are a learner.
